How to Prepare a Sofa for Pickup Without Creating a Moving-Day Problem
Measure the route, remove loose parts, protect the property, and leave the heavy lifting plan to the pickup team.

Start with the exit route
Measure the sofa at its widest, tallest, and deepest points. Then measure the narrowest doorway, hallway turn, stair landing, and gate on the way out. The smallest clearance controls the plan. Include removable legs or cushions in your notes, but do not assume taking them off will solve every turn.
Empty, inspect, and photograph it
Remove cushions, blankets, remotes, and anything trapped under the seats. Check for a sleeper mechanism, broken frame, exposed staples, moisture, or pests. Photograph the sofa and the tightest part of the route so the pickup conversation starts with useful evidence.
Apartment and building access
Confirm elevator reservations, loading zones, gate codes, and move-out hours with the property manager. A sofa that fits the apartment door may still fail at the elevator or a stairwell landing.
